Jack Lowe’s new book “Get Fit for Life” released on Amazon
NEWS RELEASE
Geneva, 25 January 2021 – The Fit for Life Foundation is pleased to announce the release of Jack Lowe’s new book, Get Fit for Life: My Journey with Health, Fitness, and Aging. Jack was the driving force behind the launch of the Fit for Life Foundation in 2020. Registered in Liechtenstein, the foundation promotes innovative, high-impact approaches to healthy aging through its annual Fit for Life Awards, and seeks to build global awareness of the importance of physical activity for a healthy old age.
A lifelong runner, cyclist and mountaineer, Jack suffered a back injury in his early 70s which threatened to severely limit his mobility. Thanks to a combination of surgery and daily exercise, he made a full recovery. But the experience got him thinking. What are the main factors influencing health as we grow older? What can we do to prevent the disease and disability that severely limit the independence of many older people?
The 79-year-old businessman set out to answer these questions and more in Get Fit for Life: My Journey with Health, Fitness, and Aging, available in digital and paperback from Amazon.com and Kobo.com (All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Fit for Life Foundation).
"The average 50-year-old today can expect to live well into their nineties," Jack said. “Yet most of us don't put nearly enough thought and effort into preparing for these extra years of life." One of the chief culprits is our increasingly sedentary way of life. According to the WHO, such lifestyle factors are fueling a global epidemic of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease that is taking a heavy toll on healthcare systems everywhere.
Illustrated with anecdotes from the author’s life, each chapter in the book addresses a key determinant of long-term health, from mindset and exercise to diet and sleep, summarizing the scientific evidence and offering practical advice on how to adopt healthier habits that positively impact one’s wellbeing, at any age.
Unsurprisingly for a man who works out for an hour each day before heading to the office, Jack makes a strong case for the virtues of physical activity. "Integrating exercise into your daily routine is the best investment you can make for your long-term health,” he remarked. "And independent mobility is crucial for older people to stay socially connected, mentally sharp and able to age in place."
Part fitness manual, part memoir, Get Fit for Life is a passionate and highly personal manifesto for embracing later life with humor, resilience, and optimism. “Growing old doesn’t have to be synonymous with disease and decline,” Jack said. “I want to share my experience and encourage readers to get fit and healthy, so they can enjoy every new adventure life has to offer. Most importantly, I want them to have fun doing it!”
