Applications for the inaugural Fit for Life Awards closed on 8 December 2020, and I am delighted to announce that we received a total of 602 applications from 56 countries on every continent. A big thank you for taking the time to tell us about your programs and their impact!

This enthusiastic response confirms our belief that healthy aging is a key challenge for societies worldwide, yet one that is still barely on the radar for many donors. We hope to change that by encouraging other foundations and individual philanthropists to join us in supporting innovation and impact in healthy aging.

I am especially excited about the next stage of the Awards process, as we start to review the proposals. So far, we have been impressed with the quality of the applicants and the diversity of their projects, from personalised fitness programs to nutrition, health apps, community-based interventions and many more. I look forward to telling you more about the shortlisted organizations in the months ahead.

As we enter 2021, our minds are very much on the terrible toll that the pandemic has had on older people over the past year. With the rollout of a vaccine in many countries, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. I also see hope in the fact that this global crisis has spotlighted the need to invest in prevention and in fostering the connection and community that are essential to our wellbeing at every age.

Wishing you health, happiness and success in the New Year,

Jack Lowe Champion of the Fit for Life Philosophy
